First day of winter
December 24, 2011 12:00 am MST
For the first day of winter in Denver we received about ten inches of snow. I went out to City Park to get a skyline shot in the snow, but couldn't see any of the buildings. So I walked around a bit and found a few interesting scenes in the snow, including this tree.
100 Abadnoned Houses featured on American Public Media's The Story

A few weeks ago I was interviewed for an American Public Media show, called The Story. It airs today. It's part of day one, of two days of stories about Detroit. My interview is in between a story about foreclosure, and a new culture taking shape in the City.
This interview, along with the Marketplace interview a bit earlier this year, were exciting for me as I listen to both shows fairly regularly. The interview was recorded via tape sync, in which, while I am talking to the interviewer, I am being recorded separately. Later, in the studio, the audio of me is synched with the audio of the interviewer. It's an older process, but it was new to me. Interestingly, to me at least, the individual who came to my apartment to perform the tape sync was Andy Mills. who had not too long before, had his own piece on another favorite program of mine, called Radio Lab. The piece is called Slow. It's a very interesting, and engaging story about the sound of one man's voice, which was not at all what he expected it to be. I had heard the story on Radio Lab when it aired, and found it to be interesting enough to tell my wife about it, not knowing that I would be meeting the person who created it.
You can also hear the original version of the story on Andy's website: Andy Mills Media
Our last Mt Evans sunrise
November 26, 2011 12:00 am MST
I've finally (almost) caught up from our move from one side Denver to the other. Finally, I've had a chance to set up my office, and download images from a card that's been in the camera for weeks. This photo of Mt Evans was on the card, and it turns out it's probably the last sunrise photo of Mt Evans I'll take from such a great vantage point
We are only one block from City Park which also has a view of Mt Evans, and the downtown skyline as well, but it's just not the same as waking up, seeing a great sunrise out the window, stepping on to the balcony, and getting a great shot. While I'm exciting about our new location, I will miss the view.

Mt Evans' Sunrise
The sunrise after a day of snow is always beautiful. This morning's was no exception. The key is getting up before sunrise. Of course it's pretty easy to do as we head towards winter, when the sun doesn't rise until after 7am.
Now we get to enjoy a few hours of snow and sun before it all melts away.
